We are pleased to announce the promotion of Angela Ndegwa to Programs Coordinator for DeckerMed Africa Trust. The new position recognizes Angela’s keen awareness and experience in overseeing our Outreach Camps on the one hand and her central role in organizing Global Surgery on the other.
The Programs Coordinator position consolidates the management of DeckerMed Africa Trust’s most important programs: Angela oversees 80 Outreach Clinics in remote areas of Kenya for patients with limited access to health care. More than 7500 patients annually are assessed, treated, and referred for free surgical or ophthalmic care, and 5,000 women are screened and treated for breast and cervical cancer, obstetric fistula, and other women’s diseases.
Angela is also the architect of DeckerMed Africa Trust’s robust Global Surgery program which brings surgical trainees from the US to East Africa to learn how surgical care is conducted in an LMIC.
Ms Ndegwa said, “I am thrilled to be able to extend and improve patient care in villages and wards in Meru, Embu, and other counties. We provide our Clinical Team with the latest digital equipment to provide state-of-the-art treatment for our patients.”
Brian Decker, Chair of DeckerMed Africa Trust: “In Global Surgery we emphasize bidirectional learning in which the American University welcomes Kenyan and Tanzanian surgical trainees in their teaching hospitals. We are confident that Angela will shepherd these programs ably.”
DeckerMed Africa Trust is a registered charitable trust in Nairobi, Kenya. We are devoted to building capacity in health care and supporting graduate medical education in Sub-Saharan Africa.
